IT@Cork – great event
August 5th, 2006
A few days ago, I wrote about driving in Ireland. The driving and wandering about were all wrapped around the now-famous IT@Cork Web 2.0 event, and it cannot go unblogged. This is a long-awaited post, and it mustn’t be gauged by the time that has since passed… a story from Ireland, like any fine wine, gets better with age.
Damien Mulley organized the pre-conference dinner, which was fantastic. Damien is a ridiculously prolific blogger who’s up to about three dozen things at any given point, and gets extra-energetic when talking about digital rights… here’s a photo from that evening, (which is hugely memorable for me as I drank my first pint of Murphy’s (in Cork) in 10 years…)

Next I met Conor O’Neil, who either types in stream-of-consciousness or has a photographic memory. His blog posts of the event are amazing, and each session is fully detailed out… if you miss a conference he’s attended, just read his blog. This collection of his June posts contains his reviews of all the sessions.
Britt Blaser dropped in while on his vacation, and others that I met (and remember) were Donncha O’Caoimh, the noted Wordpress developer (love this photo… ), John Handelaar, Walter Higgins – who has a fabulous product and Gavin Sheridan, another prolific blogger.
A final and very special thanks, though, must go to Pat Phalen, who bought me a Tshirt saying “The People’s Republic of Cork”… Tom is wearing it in this photo… more about Pat in another post, who saved my bacon twoice (sic) while I was in Ireland. This is his storefront.

Thanks for the kind words Salim. I think I may have the world’s only anti-photographic memory. Typing like a madman explains the detail on the blog. You should come back for the it@cork annual conference in November and we can have a few more pints.
