Jerry Yang as CEO…

June 18th, 2007

Whoa. Big changes…

Jerry lists some of Yahoo’s accomplishments under Terry’s 6-yr tenure, and they are extraordinary:
- 3,500 to 12,000+ employees
- 9x increase in revenues (from a loss-making position)
- 170 million to 500 million users
etc…

I think the sentence that grabs me most from Jerry’s missive is the following:

“We have incredible assets. This company has massive potential, drive, determination and skills, and we won’t be satisfied until the external perception of Yahoo! accurately reflects that reality.”

This sentence is why I joined. There’s a certain zing that a passionate founder brings to a company that is very hard to replicate. (and I know of what I speak!)

The challenge going forward as I see it is twofold:
1 – increase the pace of innovation to get more products/services out there
2 – restructure the internal business structure to leverage the amazing assets that Yahoo has

In my time there, I’ve seen excellent progress towards both. It’s going to be a very fun time!
